Llorente targets further improvement

The Pamplona-born frontman analyses a memorable Serie A debut: “I’m happy about scoring and helping my team-mates to this afternoon’s victory, but I know I have to keep working to get back into peak condition”

Fernando Llorente was unable to conceal his delight after scoring on his Bianconeri debut in front of a capacity crowd at Juventus Stadium.

The 28-year-old brought his new public to their feet when he stole a yard on his marker to plant an unstoppable header past Rafael after connecting with Arturo Vidal’s teasing delivery from the right flank in first half stoppage time.

The goal eventually proved to be the winner and the Pamplona-born frontman expressed his satisfaction at returning to the goal trail after a lengthy period on the sidelines.

Speaking to the media after this afternoon’s 2-1 victory, Llorente began: “I didn’t expect to net on my debut. I’m happy about scoring and contributing to the team’s victory.

“I normally take a bit of time to hit form and knew I’d have to work a great deal, also because I pretty much missed the whole of last season.

“In addition I needed to settle in and learn the language, and adapting to a new environment is never an easy task for anyone. I’m getting on great here and feel the manager has faith in me, but I know I need to keep working to get back into peak condition.”
