Zanchetta: “Delighted for the lads”

The Primavera coach toasts his first silverware after joining the club in the summer: “It’s a great feeling. We didn’t lose our cool when they equalised and managed to seal the result with an important piece of play”

Andrea Zanchetta spoke of his delight after witnessing his young guns lift the Primavera Super Cup trophy following a 2-1 win over Lazio at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico.

The visitors were pushed all the way by a competitive Biancocelesti side but drew on all their final reserves to clinch their first silverware of the season courtesy of a last-gasp stoppage time goal by Anastasios Domis.

Speaking at the final whistle, Zanchetta said: “It’s a great feeling. We played an excellent first half but they gained courage after the break and we backed off. The goal we conceded was also down to the good work of Keita, but we didn’t lose our cool and managed to seal the result through a good and important piece of play.”

The 40-year-old hopes this evening’s victory will help restore some confidence to a side which has seen its recent efforts in the UEFA Youth League and championship undermined by last-minute opposition strikes, in particular last Saturday’s derby defeat to Torino.

He concluded: “I’m happy for the lads. They needed to bounce back and put it behind them and it’s an important success from that point of view.”

Joining his coach in speaking to reporters in Rome was matchwinner Donis, who sought to share the credit for the Primavera’s third Super Cup triumph with his team-mates: “It was a great win and I’m very happy with the goal and the fact that we all played very well.”
