Chiellini: «Proud of my Euro performances»

To suffer a burning disappointment on the same night you play your best-ever international match. It was indeed a strange Sunday for Giorgio Chiellini, who played a fantastic game against Spain – with the whole press acknowledging this and praising him – but it was all in vain as Italy went out on penalties.

The day after the end of his Euro 2008 cup run, the Livorno-born defender spoke of his feelings with Juventus Channel during the “231 Estate” afternoon programme.

«I can only be proud of how I played at these European Championships – Giorgio confessed – even though I'm sorry it ended like that for Italy, alas we were not very lucky. The striker who impressed me the most? Villa of Spain. I don't know how this tournament will end, once you get to the semi-finals there are no favourites any more, every team has the same chances; having said that, Russia look very strong. From today I'm focusing on my holidays, I think I'll be back in mid-July».
