In contrast to last season, the 2009/10 edition will kick-off much earlier. The 12th of September will see the start to the championship. The Coppa Italia will begin at the end of October.
The championship therefore, will start on the 12th of September, the day of the first match. The first round will come to an end on the 9th of Januray, right after the Christmas break. The second round will begin a week later, on the 16th of January, and will have the usual break (from the 30th of January to the 20th of February) for the Viareggio Tournament, of which Juventus are holders. The last day of the regular phase will be played on the 1st of May with the subsequent play-offs.
The format is the same applied to the 2008/09 season, that is, an elimination round which will be played on the 8th of May (first leg) and on the 15th of May (return match). The dates and locations of the finals which will be held between the 30th May and the 10th June, are still to be announced.
Juventus will join the Coppa Italia as from the final 16, on the 21st of October (1st leg) and the 4th of November (return match). The bianconeri are seeded since they were amongst the 8 finalists of last season. Before the entry of the big teams (Chievo, Udinese, Lazio, Siena, Reggina, Palermo, Genoa and Juventus), there will be a preliminary round and two knock-out rounds, at the end of which the complete table will be issued. This will be followed by the quarterfinals (25th November and 19th December), the semifinals (3rd and 10th March) and the final 91st and 14th April).
