«We started with a certain positioning but then we changed often during the match an according to the situation. We must not fossilize ourselves in one formation. At certain levels every team has a philosophy which it works on, but it must also know how to adapt in a different manner on the field». Ferrara did not give any hints about the line-up which he will field against Genoa, neither did he say he wanted to change tactical approach, but stresses an aspect which he holds very dear. His Juventus must be capable to change during the match, to adapt to different situations and not to give certainties to the opponents especially when they are dangerous ones like the rossoblu: «We know what the strong points of Genoa are. They have been playing this sort of football for years, with players who know each other by heart and with a continuous change in positions. Sometimes one of the three defenders moves up to the attack putting himself in a condition to shoot at goal and when this happens he is always covered by a team mate. They play well on the flanks, know Gasperini’s schemes by heart and they carry them out showing excellent football high in intensity».
Ferrara knows well what the attitude of his team must be: «I think it is important to be shorter, both in the offensive and the defnsive phases. This will allow us to win back the ball more easily and avoid long balls when we are in possession. Long balls are instinctive when you have team mates which are physically strong and perhaps it is the easie solution, especially when the opponents attack you. We must be clever enough to move the ball arouns even when we are under pressure and everybody must move around. We won two difficult away matches against Roma and Lazio but it is not enough. Our victories must pass through other victories, starting from tomorrow».
Ferrara was asked to give an answer to the words spoken by Gasperini during the week by which he declared that a debutant like Ferrara on the Juventus bench is a defeat for the category of coaches: «I understand he wanted to defend a category, but I want to underline that I am part of it myself. I realize that the fact that I am sitting on the Juventus bench in my first experience can bother certain people. It is nearly natural». In reality, notwithstanding his little experience, Ferrara is collecting victories and compliments: «I hope I will receive them even at the end of the season. They make me happy and I think even gratify the players who are on the field. I entrust myself in their abilities and their want of victories».
Amongst the champions available to Ferrara, is one in particular who is going through an excellent state of form: Gigi Buffon, who Ferrara himself first played against and then played along with him as a team mate. «I remember him as an opponent and a team mate and I think he is confirming himself. The career of a great champion is not made up of one good season or a less good one. I don’t know for how many years Gigi has been playing but he has always had a consistent performance. If he exagerates in dribbling? If he makes those kind of saves he can even afford that».
