Manninger: «Winning without conceding goals is better»

February 26, 2010

Just like during last season, a muscle injury has stopped Buffon during one of the key moments. It will therefore be the turn of Alexander Manninger to defeans the Juventus goal during the decisive championship matches during the coming month and even in the two legs of the Europa League encounter with Fulham.

The Austrian goalkeeper started a parenthesis as a protagonist against Ajax and contributed, together with his mates, to the first clean sheet of the Zaccheroni era. The day after, he spoke on Sky Sport 24: «I must admit that at first I found it a bit hard. It had been a month since Gigi returned and since I played. I made a mistake on my first intervention. At least nothing happened. Winning without conceding goals is always important. We needed a clean result, seeing that during the week we work very hard on this aspect with Mr. Zaccheroni. The coach has showed he is one of great experience, exactly what we needed to re-find our balance which we had lost».

The 0-0 result against Ajax will not only be remembered for the fact that the team made it through to the next round of the Europa League or for the zero goals conceded, but also for the great support shown by the fans at the Olimpico: «When you play in your own stadium, you need to make the opponents feel this weight – concluded Manninger-. Yesterday, we felt at home and we obtained an important result. If we are united, the team and fans, we are stronger. Now we expect the same help on Sunday against Palermo».
