In search of the en plein against Siena

March 13, 2010

Juventus played against Siena 5 times in Turin and registered 5 victories. The history of Juventus-Siena is easily summarized within a constant plot.

The series began on the 18th June 2004. The match was played under the snow and Juve struck a poker with a hat-trick by Del Piero and a goal by Trezeguet, before Ventola scored twice to make the final result 4-2.

It was another resounding victory in the following season: this time Del Piero scored two goals with Emerson scoring another in between the two. In 2005/06 the score is less round, but the dynamics of the match are the same: Trezeguet and Cannavaro ended the first half with a 2-0 lead for Juve, a score which remained intact till the final whistle.

2-0 was also the verdict in 2007/08. A goal was scored in each half: Salihamidzic scored the opener with a sliding attempt in the small area and Trezeguet made it two with a powerful right-footed shot. Finally, the last Juventus-Siena was decided by Del Piero, who scored his 6th goal in these encounters. This time he struck from a brilliant free-kick and this was enough to guarantee Juventus full points in the first match of 2009.
