The Women's First Team beat Sassuolo 2-1 in Biella on Matchday 6 of the Serie A Women season.
Coach Isaac Guerrero and match-winner Cecilia Salvai spoke to the press after the match.
ISAAC GUERRERO
“This team has shown throughout the season that it possesses great qualities on the pitch, and when our play doesn’t quite reach its best – as was particularly the case in the first half – our heart, unity and team spirit come to the fore. It’s a team with a real spirit, and we can build a great deal on that. We’re enjoying a good run of positive results, but we want to keep improving in terms of our style of play as well. In the second half, we upped the tempo, moving the ball around more quickly and making better use of switches of play against a side that tended to sit deep. The girls did well to read the game and, above all, never gave up. Even after going 2–1 up, we kept pushing for a third goal, which shows the mentality of the squad. We now face a very busy period, with five matches in fifteen days. We’ll be facing one of the strongest teams in the world, but we have great confidence in our chances. With this spirit, we can compete against anyone. We’ll try to recover our energy as quickly as possible so that we’re ready.”

CECILIA SALVAI
“We conceded a goal that we could have avoided, and that made the match a bit more difficult, but we were aware of our strength. We had to be patient, keep believing in what we were doing, and in the end we managed to turn the game around. I’m happy about the goal, but above all about the win, because it was the result of great teamwork. Wednesday’s match against Lyon will be a completely different affair, we’re up against the most successful team in Europe in the Champions League, and we’ll have to pay close attention to every detail. However, we’re playing at home, we’re full of confidence and we’re in good form. We need to capitalise on this enthusiasm, whilst remaining aware that a very difficult challenge lies ahead.”
