“I must congratulate the lads, who stuck to the game plan and gave everything despite difficult conditions. I also had to manage them to avoid injuries. We gave all we could and these matches are very useful for us. Now we will rest well to start fresh for the new season. Tonight’s match mattered much more than the one against Manchester City and the lads approached it the right way, knowing how to suffer while also creating some decent chances.

“There is disappointment because we hoped to progress and we had the quality to do so, but this tournament has been a valuable journey of growth and learning.
