At the end of a crazy match and a crazy comeback against Roma, Marco Landucci, Mattia De Sciglio and Wojciech Szczesny reflected on a result that gives Juve more than just three points.

Marco Landucci

“We needed a win like that. I'm so happy for all the lads because we showed tremendous character. We said we needed to play with grit like that but it's one thing to say it and another to actually do it.

“We grew into the game after [Manuel] Locatelli's goal but didn't get off to the best of starts – we were too timid. We were overpowered by Roma and conceded from a corner. We didn't start the second half well either and found ourselves two goals down in a matter of minutes.

“It wasn't easy to come back from that but Locatelli's goal gave us a fillip and afterwards we rode the wave of enthusiasm to get two more.

“The players who came off the bench were a great help. They came on with the right spirit and were one of the big positives in the last half an hour. [Alvaro] Morata made a real difference with his quality and ability to stretch the opposition.

“We head home very happy.”

Mattia De Sciglio

“We won an incredible match – absolutely crazy. I'm delighted with my goal especially as it proved to be the winner thanks to Szczesny's penalty save.

“It was a team win: we've always been united and we showed that today. When we find ourselves in trouble, we dig deep and show our character but the way we played after Locatelli's goal is the way we should have played from the beginning. We were poor at the start of both halves and had to chase all game.

“This victory is a huge boost for us for the rest of the campaign – starting with the next game, when we'll be playing for the first trophy of the season.

“We know it's not going to be easy against Inter but we want to win the Super Cup and even though we'll be missing some players I'm sure we'll go out there totally determined.”

Wojciech Szczesny

“It was an amazing feeling to save a penalty at such a crucial stage of the game. However, I think it was more luck than skill because I moved early and was off balance when [Lorenzo] Pellegrini shot but managed to guess the right way and save it.

“We have to build on this comeback win now. We're Juventus and we should be challenging to be the best team in Italy.

“We've won a tricky match because Roma showed they're a great team themselves. They caused problems for us from set-pieces with their physicality but our response was excellent – certainly the highlight of the evening.”
