Cristiana Girelli enjoyed yet another magic night on Wednesday, 16 July, in Geneva. Her brace secured a last-minute win for Italy over Norway, booking the Azzurre’s place in the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025.
After a cagey first half in Switzerland, everything happened in the second on Wednesday. Italy went ahead through Girelli as she turned home Sofia Cantore’s centre from right in front of goal, but Norway managed to level. In the 90th minute, though, Girelli stepped up again - she found herself free to meet another Cantore cross and head in off the underside of the crossbar and book Italy’s place in the final four.
Beyond Girelli, both Cecilia Salvai and Barbara Bonansea started for the Azzurre, while Michela Cambiaghi and Martina Lenzini appeared from the bench. Lisa Boattin, Eva Schatzer and Valentina Bergamaschi did not appear from the bench.
On the other side of things, Mathilde Harviken remained on the bench for Norway.
