Juventus commercial director Francesco Calvo and club legend Edgar Davids today attended the official media launch for the Bianconeri’s summer exhibition match with the FOXTEL A-League All Stars, to be played on Sunday 10 August 2014.
Held at Sydney Opera House, the pearl of the Australian city where Juve’s encounter with the pick of the Hyundai A-League’s players is to be contested, the event confirmed that tickets are now on sale for the clash.
Speaking at the launch, Football Federation Australia CEO David Gallop expressed his delight at the prospect of hosting a team of Juventus’ stature.
He began: “To have a club of the calibre of Juventus FC come to Sydney is a massive coup for football in Australia.
“To put it into perspective, it’s very possible that of the 24 players in the Juventus FC first team squad, 16 of these could be at the 2014 FIFA World Cup representing eight different nations.
“This match will be a fantastic opportunity for fans to see the best of the Hyundai A-League line up against some of the world’s best international footballers in our own backyard.”
Adding extra excitement to the occasion will be the confirmed involvement of Alessandro Del Piero, who is set to line up for the All Stars against the club he represented for 19 years.
Now in his second season with Sydney FC, Del Piero already has a full understanding of the growing popularity of football in Australia, a country which is home to over one million Juventus supporters.
And today brought the opportunity for his former team-mate Davids to experience the passion of Bianconeri fans Down Under at first hand as he met members of Sydney’s Marconi fan club shortly after the official announcement.
For those who would like to watch Juve in action during their summer trip to Australia, official travel packages for international visitors are available here.
