Giorgio Chiellini believes the Bianconeri’s hunger for victory was crucial to passing a “difficult” test with flying colours this evening in Bologna.
The defender, who celebrated the team’s seventh consecutive clean sheet, wrapped up a 2-0 victory with a towering header in the 89th minute, his second Serie A goal of the current campaign.
But with next week’s crunch final Champions League Group B game on the horizon, Chiellini insists the team will immediately turn their attentions to successfully negotiating the first significant juncture of their season.
Reflecting on events in Emilia-Romagna, Chiellini said: “It was a difficult game for us. We started strongly and showed our desire to win. Bologna have a constant threat in Diamanti, especially in dead ball situations, but we did well, even though we could have put the game to bed earlier.
“We put in a great performance and have shown that we also want to be up there this season. Now we’ll recover and fix our sights on Galatasaray. It’s an important crossroads in our season and we’ll give everything we’ve got.”
