Honourary Juventus club president and former prolific striker (1946-1961), Giampiero Boniperti, celebrates his 85th birthday today.
Marriage is a big step for any teenager but in 1946, at the age of 18, Boniperti was ready to take the step. However, unlike a normal wedding, his wasn’t conducted in a church; instead the bond was sealed when he placed his signature on a contract, alongside Juventus’ name.
Their lifetime together has brought many successes, and, 67 years later, they are more united than ever. Five Scudetto crowns and two Coppa Italia trophies as a player. Nine Scudetto titles, two Coppa Italia triumphs and all the continental silverware on offer as president. Boniperti and Juventus have become legends together.
The striker’s overall goal tally of 182 was the club record for over 40 years until it was eventually broken by Alessandro Del Piero when he netted a hat-trick in a Coppa Italia last 16 clash against Fiorentina on 10 January 2006.
All associated with Juventus Football Club wish Giampiero Boniperti many happy returns.
