Juventus ambassador Edgar Davids and Head of Global Partnerships Nicola Verdun officially presented August’s friendly fixture in Indonesia, an exciting event which will kick off this summer’s tour of South-East Asia and Australia, during a press conference held in Jakarta this morning.
The reigning champions of Italy will take to the field against an Indonesian select outfit on Wednesday 6 August, with the magnificent 88,000-capacity Gelora Bung Karno Stadium providing the venue.
Speaking to the assembled media, Verdun said: “Indonesia one of the most important Asian markets for Juventus, also because of the large fanbase we have here. All our first-team players will take part in the tour, including those who are involved in the World Cup.”
Yesterday’s announcement was greeted by widespread excitement from Indonesian supporters on Twitter, and they have promised to make the Bianconeri feel at home during their stay.
Local supporters’ group representative Dede Faisal pledged: “The atmosphere at the GBK Stadium will be just as splendid as the one at Juventus Stadium.”
Sat alongside Verdun was Juventus ambassador Davids, who confirmed a burning passion for the black and white stripes will be in plentiful supply along every step of the Bianconeri’s tour.
He added: “In Indonesia, just as in Sydney and Singapore, the team will be welcomed affectionately by fans and football lovers. It’s been pleasing for me to see proof of how much passion Juve creates in the countries I’ve been able to visit.”
After opening in Indonesia, Juventus will continue their summer tour with a fixture against the FOXTEL A-League All Star Team, a selection of the best players from Australia’s top flight, on Sunday 10 August in Sydney.
The final stop will be Singapore’s National Stadium on Saturday 16 August, when a Singapore selection side, comprised of players from Malaysian Super League outfit Lions and S-League internationals, will take on the Italian champions.
