Just as huge numbers of Juventus fans flocked to celebrate with Gigi Buffon, Kwadwo Asamoah, Leo Bonucci, Fernando Llorente and Mirko Vucinic at the Jeep party in San Jose, another event organised by the club’s official sponsor in Miami yesterday was equally filled with Bianconeri supporters eager to meet their heroes.
Andrea Pirlo and Alessandro Matri were the guests of honour on this occasion at Miami’s Planet Dodge, the most successful dealership in the whole of Florida.
The two stars took on the role of drawing from a hat the names of some lucky fans to win free tickets for tonight’s clash against Inter and free official Juventus shirts. The pair also signed a myriad of autographs and posed for photos that will be treasured memories for the supporters.
Having accompanied the team on their stay in California, the Scudetto trophy has also made the move over to the east coast. Last night it took pride of place on the zebra-patterned Jeep, now a true symbol of Juve, between the two Bianconeri champions standing beside it.
The fact that the Jeep events have been so well-received on both sides of the country shows the extraordinary popularity of “soccer” in the USA – traditionally the land of baseball, American football and basketball – and the way in which it is now the talk of the nation is down in no small part, it seems, to Juventus.
