Trabzonspor coach Hami Mandirali has spoken optimistically of his side’s chances of overturning Juventus’ 2-0 first-leg lead when the two teams resume their Europa League Round of 32 battle at the Huseyin Avni Aker Stadium tomorrow evening.
It’s a game in which the Turks have nothing to lose, and Mandirali, a former club hero during his playing career, believes they have every chance if the passionate home faithful get behind the team as best they can.
Speaking to the media just as the Bianconeri were touching down in Trabzon, he began: “We ask our fans for their maximum support: with them behind us we’ll give our all.
“We’ll go out there against Juventus like we did in the second half in Turin. If we can replicate that kind of performance, managing to score before half-time, we can do it.”
Trabzonspor have enjoyed a seven-game unbeaten European run at the ground where they will host Juve tomorrow, and Mandirali went on to stress that one of those matches produced a particularly eye-catching showing against Italian opposition.
“Juve are without doubt a strong team, but remember that we netted three goals in half an hour against Lazio.”
The manager concluded by expressing his belief that the positive signs to take from last Thursday’s outing will stand them in good stead for tomorrow’s rematch.
“In Turin we lost 2-0, but a decent dose of bad luck also played its part. We did well in the second half, and despite the defeat our performance was an assertive one.”
