Claudio Marchisio believes the Bianconeri’s spirit in recovering from an early setback proved crucial to overcoming Milan and sealing three fundamental points ahead of next week’s international break.
The midfielder says Juventus were required to win today in order to maintain the pace with early Serie A table toppers Roma, and expressed his delight at helping his team-mates see off the Rossoneri on home soil.
The 27-year-old began: “We can’t allow ourselves to be distracted, because the first mistake we make results in us conceding. Finding yourselves behind after 20 seconds doesn’t help, but once again we were capable of reacting strongly, overturning the deficit and clinching three vital points.”
With six wins and a draw from the team’s opening seven fixtures of the campaign, Marchisio believes recent criticism levelled in the Bianconeri’s direction to be wide of the mark.
He concluded: “It’s because they’re used to seeing us at the top of the pile, while Roma are currently doing positive things and have the advantage of not playing in Europe. That’s why winning today was all the more important, enabling us to stay in touch with them.”
