Giuseppe Marotta believes the future is bright after witnessing Juventus confirm their Serie A supremacy with this afternoon’s resounding 4-1 triumph over Atalanta in Bergamo.
Having watched the action unfold from the stands, the Bianconeri CEO spoke of the need for a correct attitude in order to maintain the team’s lofty perch and fend off the chasing pack throughout this year’s Scudetto race.
Marotta began: “We can’t think about the advantage we have at the top of the table. Instead we must focus on continuing to win and the stability of the group, aspects which enable us to look to the future with optimism.
“It’s a shame that Buffon’s run without conceding has come to end, but credit must also go to Atalanta, who did well to find a response to Tevez’s opener. Juve then grew and came away with a deserved three points.”
Commenting on Antonio Conte’s media silence, Marotta said: “I think one of the club’s duties is to support the manager’s professionalism, allowing him the most serenity possible. He’s saddened because every time the betting scandal is spoken about his name is brought up, despite the fact that he’s already paid for a dismissed charge. As far as he’s concerned it’s a topic that is consigned to the past and his decision to not speak about it should be respected.”
The CEO believes the club is continuing to move forward in the right direction and, combined with the coaching abilities of Conte, should ensure a rosy new year for all concerned.
“This team has been built to win and year after year we’ve made important additions. An element of time was needed at the start of the season. Many had come back tired from international duty, preparation was tough, Llorente hadn’t played for a long time and Tevez needed to fully get into his stride.
“Everyone has responded brilliantly, also thanks to the work of Conte, who, as well as technical values, has also known how to bring out the determination and desire to win from his players.”
