Pavel Nedved believes Juventus have been handed a tough task in their Europa League semi-final against Benfica – but says the club’s determination to go all the way in this season’s competition will make for an even contest.
Speaking to the media following the draw in Nyon, the club director said: “They got to last year’s final and this is their third semi-final appearance in four years. They’re a team with noteworthy European experience and will have added motivation after losing last year’s final.
“We’re very happy to have reached this stage and getting to the final in Turin is a huge motivation, but it will be tough. They will be evenly poised affairs decided by small details.”
Nedved went on underline the sense of duty felt by the club in flying the flag for Italy, saying Antonio Conte and his men will be giving it all they’ve got to achieve a memorable domestic-European double.
He concluded: “We have the slight advantage of playing the return leg at home, but I don’t know how decisive that will be. We feel the responsibility of being the only Italian team remaining in Europe.
“This cup really matters to us and we want to honour it by playing to our best. It’s not easy to be fighting on two fronts, but Antonio and the team are handling it very well.”
