Livorno boss Davide Nicola believes Sunday afternoon’s test at home against Juventus, the team he considers the league’s best, will be a revealing marker of the extent of his newly-promoted side’s development so far this season.
Speaking about the fixture at his pre-match press conference, the Piedmont-born tactician said: “It will be another chance to see our progress against the highest quality team in the league. We know that we can hold our own even against opposition who are strong and different to us.”
On the hunt for his fourth victory in Serie A after guiding the Amaranto to the top flight via the Serie B play-offs last season, Nicola recognised that it takes time in this league to find your feet.
“We still need to find a balance that suits us: we have only played 12 games. Juve have a perfect setup and a brilliant manager, but we’ll aim to cause them problems by keeping them at bay and then looking to hit on the counter. We’ll need to work well as a unit, playing with energy and confidence in our own abilities.”
