Angelo Ogbonna has confirmed the Bianconeri’s aim of going as far as possible in the Europa League this season.
With the final of this year’s competition to be held at Juventus Stadium, the defender described an atmosphere of total concentration in the Juve dressing room, all intent on having the chance to lift the trophy in front of their home faithful.
Speaking to the media in Vinovo ahead of Juve’s Europa League opener against Trabzonspor tomorrow evening, the 25-year-old began: “There’s total concentration on this competition. We’ll look to put in the best possible performances, giving our all right to the very end because we want to go far in the Europa League.
“We know that we have a lot of games to play, so we need to remain focused on bringing home this important prize.”
One aspect of play which manager Antonio Conte will be telling his men to pay careful attention to if they are to progress is dealing with set pieces, something which has occasionally seen them come unstuck in recent times.
The Azzurri international then went on to offer his explanation of why this has been the case.
“We have a different way of defending to the one that most people would expect, the interpretation is different. On certain occasions we perhaps haven’t been ruthless enough when dealing with dead ball situations.”
Ogbonna joined the Bianconeri from Derby della Mole rivals Torino in a summer transfer, and after an initial settling-in period he has now become well acclimatised to what is required by a club of Juventus’ stature.
“I found it difficult at the start, mostly because of the intensity of the workload, but over time things have become smoother. Thanks to a sense of continuity and the training sessions, everything is more fluid now.”
