Andrea Pirlo expressed his delight at helping the Bianconeri to secure a priceless three points with a stunning free-kick in the second half of this evening’s top-of-the-table clash with Scudetto rivals Napoli.
With 74 minutes on the clock and the visitors continuing to believe in their chances of snatching an equaliser, the midfielder sunk Partenopei hearts with another gem from his seemingly limitless set-piece repertoire.
And with the win taking Juventus to within a point of early pace setters Roma, Pirlo encouraged the team to keep their foot on the gas when their Serie A campaign resumes on Sunday 24 November against Livorno.
Reacting to tonight’s victory, the 33-year-old said: “I’m happy with my goal but especially for the win which sends out a message to the rest of the league. We’ve cut the gap even though Roma continue to enjoy a great championship season, just like ourselves and Napoli. We just need to focus on ourselves and always try to play like we did this evening.”
“Perhaps the defeats to Fiorentina and Real Madrid were what we needed, even though we did well in Florence and were only made to pay for those 10 strange minutes. The team is continuing to grow and we need to keep going.”
