Paul Pogba this morning linked up with his Bianconeri team-mates for his first training session since returning from this summer’s triumphant Under-20 World Cup tournament with France.
Following last night’s debut in the Guinness International Champions Cup against Everton in San Francisco, Juventus were back at Stanford University bright and early as attentions turn to their next match at Los Angeles’ Dodgers Stadium on Saturday 3 August.
Having warmed up with a game of handball, Pogba marked his return to the group by scoring the first goal in an eight-a-side practice game, crashing home a fine right-footed volley which drew applause from his team-mates.
Mirko Vucinic then doubled the yellows’ lead from distance before Marcel Buchel halved the deficit for the team in orange moments later. Vucinic then continued his goalscoring form by completing a hat-trick, while Giorgio Chiellini, Claudio Marchisio and Fausto Rossi were also on target ahead of the end of play.
While those who figured in yesterday’s clash at AT&T Park underwent a warm-down, the remainder of the group was then put through shuttle runs of 100, 80 and 50 metres. The only exemptions were the Italian Confederations Cup contingent and Pogba, who conducted 300m endurance laps around the perimeter of the pitch.
The hard yards failed to dampen the Bianconeri’s enthusiasm as the bibs were once again distributed for another entertaining practice match. Vucinic, Rossi and Marchisio were again on the scoresheet, while Fabio Quagliarella’s double and Simone Padoin’s neat shot on the turn set up a thrilling finale. This was eventually decided by Matri, who headed home from close range, much to the delight of his team-mates in orange.
Training drew to a close with another set of shuttle runs as Conte looks to hone his players’ condition ahead of their second test in the United States.
