The Primavera pulled off a stunning 5-0 Youth League victory against Galatasaray in Istanbul this afternoon, but a late FC Copenhagen winner against Real Madrid which saw the Danes secure second place in Group B has brought the Bianconeri’s adventure in the competition to an end.
To ensure they had a fighting chance of reaching the knockout stages of the Under 19 Champions League, Andrea Zanchetta’s side had to shoot for the sky. And it was a mission they accomplished with aplomb thanks to a hat-trick from Younes Bnou Markouk and goals from Alhassane Soumah and Anatastasios Donis.
The scoreline completely overturned an unfavourable goal difference, heaping the pressure on FC Copenhagen to get a result, but unfortunately for Juventus the Danes were able to rise to the challenge.
Needing victory at all costs, Andrea Zanchetta lined up his youngsters in an attacking 3-5-2 formation that soon paid off as Soumah made it 1-0 to the visitors on 15 minutes.
Heroics from Galatasaray goalkeeper Ismael Çipe meant it stayed that way until the 64th minute, when Bnou Marzouk opened the floodgates with the Bianconeri’s second.
With Juve’s foot still firmly planted on the accelerator, substitute Donis made it three soon afterwards and Bnou Marzouk went on to complete the rout with two goals in the space of as many minutes.
Having done all they possibly could have hoped for, the Primavera now turn their attentions to the many other challenges that await them this season.
