The Primavera’s hopes of sealing automatic qualification for the end of season playoffs were dealt a blow following this afternoon’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Sampdoria in Liguria.
Fabio Grosso’s youngsters approached the game looking to build on back-to-back wins against Modena and Siena with a third successive triumph.
But despite looking bright throughout, the Bianconeri’s inability to apply the killer touch was punished 15 minutes from time when Giovanni Fenati gathered Andrea Corsini’s pass before slotting home.
The result means Juventus will have to beat their rivals for a second placed finish, Novara, to guarantee a spot in this season’s Final Eight playoffs. The Biancoazzurri will travel to Vinovo for the last fixture of the regular campaign on Saturday 3 May.
Reacting to the setback, Grosso said: “They scored a great goal and we were unable to get back in it. However, the team showed the right spirit and pushed all the way. Next Saturday’s game will be decisive and we’ll work during the week to ensure we’re able to give the best account of ourselves.”
