Juventus fans have known it all along and now the rest of the footballing world knows it too: Antonio Conte is the best. That is the verdict cast by the jurors of the Globe Soccer Awards, who named him Best Coach of the Year at the celebrated annual event in Dubai.
Conte, who follows in the footsteps of last year's winner José Mourinho, collected the prestigious accolade during the course of a spectacular gala dinner held at the Madinat Jumeirah Hotel on Sunday evening.
The awards ceremony was the culmination of Globe Soccer 2013 following two days of conference proceedings, which focused on topical issues such as globalisation and financial aspects of football, the present and future of football stadia, and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and its technical and organisational aspects.
However, the centrepiece of the Globe Soccer gathering is the ceremony itself, attended by some of the leading figures in world football. Participating this year were Fabio Capello, Josep Guardiola, Cristiano Ronaldo, Franck Ribery, Xavi and Diego Maradona, among many others. And all rose to their feet to applaud Antonio Conte – a fitting tribute to the Bianconeri coach for the results he's produced at Juve, and the perfect way to close out a magnificent 2013. But knowing Conte, he'll see this as just another starting point...
