Trabzonspor are unbeaten in this season’s Europa League at the Hüseyin Avni Aker Stadium, the ground where Juventus will be looking to follow through with last week’s 2-0 home win by sealing qualification for the last 16 on Thursday.
The three games the Turks played in Trabzon during their Group J campaign were all high-scoring affairs: a 3-3 draw in the opener with Lazio, followed by a 2-0 win over Legia and finally a 4-2 victory against Apollon.
A closer look at how the encounters panned out reveals that the hosts always went into half-time in front – 3-1, 1-0 and 2-0 respectively – so it’s clear that their home faithful give them the confidence to make a strong start.
The player whose performances in these matches particularly stood out was Olcan Adin. The competition’s top scorer with five goals, he netted four of them at the Hüseyin Avni Aker, two of which came from free-kicks.
The 28-year-old midfielder has a powerful left foot, and was the Trabzonspor man who tested Gigi Buffon the most along with Paulo Henrique in the first leg.
All three of these results were recorded under the stewardship of former manager Mustafa Akcay, however, with current coach Hami Mandirali yet to lead the team on a European night at their home ground.
