First in action amongst Juventus’ Champions League Group B rivals on a weekend when their domestic championships seem to be really hotting up are Real Madrid, who take on Real Sociedad at the Bernabeu this afternoon at 16.00 CET still looking to close the five and six-point gap with Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
While those two sides will be making trips away from home to Villarreal and Real Betis respectively, Los Blancos will have the support of their home crowd against opposition who are struggling in the Champions League but are not far off the La Liga pace in seventh.
FC Copenhagen, meanwhile, will approach their away fixture with Esbjerg on Sunday at 17.00 CET with great momentum following the 4-0 demolition of Nordsjaelland last week.
The hosts are trying to propel themselves away from the relegation zone, while the visitors’ resurgence after a rocky start to the campaign means they are now in fourth, but still with a ten-point gap to make up with leaders Midtjylland.
It’s perhaps the most important weekend of the season for Galatasaray, who take on fellow Istanbul club and bitter rivals Fenerbahce away from home on Sunday evening at 18.00 CET.
The former is located in the European side of the city while the latter is based in the Asian side, giving the clash a geographical edge that has led to it being commonly known as the “Intercontinental Derby”.
Added spice this time is the fact that Fenerbahce are top of the Superlig, while the more historically successful side Galatasaray are chasing in fourth position.
