Tomorrow’s first fixture of the new season for the Primavera at home against Spezia is something of a double debut for all concerned: besides being the team’s first outing in 2013/14, it is also the very first match in which new manager Andrea Zanchetta will be in charge.
After proving themselves to be a very talented side against the first team in the Villar Perosa encounter, and then lifting the Memorial Mamma Cairo trophy last weekend thanks to some superlative displays to beat Milan and Inter, the youngsters will be looking to carry on their good form into the new campaign.
The team’s own desire to succeed is matched by the ambition of their new manager Zanchetta, a trait which he revealed in a pre-match press conference.
He said: “Over the summer it’s never easy to maintain continuity with so many matches in quick succession. In Alessandria we did very well against Inter, but I feel we could have performed a bit better against Milan. We know that we need to work our socks off to get better.”
He then proceeded to give his view on the team’s chances in the championship this season, saying: “It’s not easy with a cold start, not least because we don’t know much about our rivals yet.
“What we do know, though, is that the duty of Juventus players is to assert themselves and try to win at all times. All the other sides will give their all against us and there will often be pitfalls just around the corner. For that reason, we need to be mentally prepared for everything.”
