The Giovanissimi Nazionali’s Final Eight aspirations were extinguished after they suffered a 2-1 (3-1 aggregate) defeat away at Napoli on Sunday morning.
Approaching the game with a 1-0 first-leg deficit inflicted by Andrea Mambella’s strike last weekend, the task facing Claudio Gabetta’s charges became even more difficult when Salvatore Pelliccia put the Partenopei a goal to the good midway through the first half.
Ousmane Thiam’s finish gave the Bianconeri some hope ahead of the interval, but a penalty from Gianluca Gaetano ensured Napoli’s Final Eight berth on 71 minutes.
With their regular season now at an end, Gabetta’s young guns will use the summer break to recharge their batteries ahead of the new campaign.
