Fernando Llorente states that he was relieved to have finally notched his first goal of the season to give the Bianconeri all three points against Palermo this afternoon at Juventus Stadium.
With 19 minutes gone in the second-half, the 29-year-old rose above his marker to meet Andrea Pirlo’s exquisite delivery and steer his header into the far corner past Stefano Sorrentino.
Speaking in the mixed zone following today’s game, he began proceedings by saying: “It’s a very important victory and I’m very happy with my contribution to the result.
“It’s a special day for me because it’s my first goal of the season and I couldn’t wait to bag it. It’ll definitely help me going forward to keep aiding the team."
The La Roja international was in full praise of his team-mates as they notched their 23rd consecutive home win.
“We went out there knowing what we had to do: be aggressive from the off. We did it very well and had many opportunities to score in the first-half. It was a good performance from everyone involved and we need to continue in the same vein.”
Llorente concluded his interview by talking through his goal and complimenting Pirlo on the quality of the pass which provided the winning assist.
He added: “It’s not easy scoring from corners because the defenders are jostling you. I was waiting for a delivery like that to come my way and get off the mark for the campaign.”
