Massimiliano Allegri admitted that he was pleased with how his side are progressing over the course of their pre-season tour in Australia and Hong Kong, despite watching the Bianconeri fall to a penalty shootout reverse in Saturday’s friendly against Melbourne Victory.

“I’m satisfied with how we’re training here in Melbourne,” he began. “Today we were well organised throughout the game. We could have performed even better, but nevertheless this was a good run out for the boys.”

Allegri, who revealed that Miralem Pjanic, Medhi Benatia and Roberto Pereyra – all rested today against Kevin Muscat’s men – would be available for Tuesday’s fixture against Tottenham Hotspur, reserved special praise for the younger members of his travelling party, who momentarily led their hosts through Carlos Blanco Moreno’s stunning strike from just in front of the halfway line.

Commenting on the defender’s breath-taking opener, Allegri said: “The boy has excellent feet and his goal was really very spectacular.

“We conceded towards the end in rather naïve circumstances, but all in all the youngsters in our squad played very well during the second half.”
