Substitute Eder’s tremendous extra-time strike sealed Portugal’s first major tournament triumph, with much-fancied France beaten on home soil during last night’s Euro 2016 final in the capital.

The hosts, who featured Bianconeri duo Patrice Evra and Paul Pogba in their starting line-up, almost snatched victory in the dying seconds of normal time when Andre-Pierre Gignac struck the inside of the post.

But it was to be the visitors, deprived of Cristiano Ronaldo through a first-half injury, who had the final say on 108 minutes, Eder firing a magnificent 25-yard drive beyond Les Bleus’ custodian Hugo Lloris.
