Daniele Rugani made a storming start to his Serie A campaign on Wednesday night as he scored in the 14th minute to set Juventus on their way to victory over Cagliari at Juventus Stadium.
“I’m pleased with the goal and it’s great to get off to such a good start,” said the young defender, who was making his first league appearance of the season. “I couldn’t have asked for more. I want to dedicate the goal to my family, who are always there for me.”
Rugani was keen to deflect attention from his goal and underline the importance of the victory from a team perspective.
“It was a fantastic win – really convincing,” declared Rugani. “It’s an important marker after the defeat at San Siro. We wanted to react and show people that it was just a blip. We started strong and made the match look easy when on paper it was anything but.”
The win puts Juve back on top of Serie A, but Rugani called for the Bianconeri to take it one game at a time.
“It’s still too early to be looking at the league table, but we know that there are three points at stake in every game. All wins are important and this one is no different.
“There’s lots of expectation around us but we need to stay calm, relax and take each game as it comes.”
