In the 65th minute of Juve’s win over Sampdoria, Gianluigi Buffon reached 39,681 Serie A minutes for the Bianconeri. The new club record confirmed, once again, the goalkeeper’s place in the Juventus history books.

After the game at the Marassi, Buffon said: “I’m happy to have reached this number. To have done so as part of such a strong team, winning so many trophies, is even more pleasing.

“But I must add that I hope to have many more crucial minutes in my legs, my head, my heart and my hands.”

Looking towards the future, the Juve captain commented: “I’m not sure about what will happen. I know I’ve got short-term objectives that I want to achieve, then we’ll see…”

In terms of the immediate future, the Bianconeri know they are faced with a big challenge in the Champions League.

“I’m very lucky to play a game like the one against Barcelona. It’s right for us to be there too. At the quarter-final stage of the tournament you have these ties which allow you to see where you stand and how good you are.

“Of course, over two games it’s tougher than a single match, in which you can go for it a bit more. But when you’re a footballer you live for moments like this and the opportunity to, perhaps, do something truly sensational.”

On the game today, the Juve goalkeeper said: “Samp are a team with a lot of technical ability and a clear way of playing. We had to win, in any way possible, striving and scrapping. We managed to do so and it’s huge for us.”
