Giorgio Chiellini conceded that Juventus still have plenty of work to do after they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Fiorentina on Sunday night.

“We need to work, work, work,” said the Italian after the final whistle. “That’s always been the secret to our success. The fact is that we’re still a work in progress and we need to perfect our balance and spacing.

“We’ve lost our four hardest away trips this season and that needs to make us reflect. Right now we win a lot but we lose games too and that’s not something we’re used to at Juve. That’s not the way we’ve won our trophies in recent seasons. We need to maintain our solidity throughout every game – we overcomplicated things in possession tonight too. As I’ve said, hard work is the only solution.”

Chiellini also admitted that there had been too many individual errors at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday night.

“We made lots of mistakes in different situations,” said the defender. “Often it was individual errors when we could have brought the ball out easily but didn’t. Fiorentina are a side that puts you under pressure and can pull you out of position, but while in other games we’ve held firm, we weren’t able to do that tonight – especially in the first half.”

The Bianconeri veteran went on to dismiss suggestions Juventus had failed to cope with the pressure in Florence on Sunday.

“Being favourites doesn’t affect us,” insisted Chiellini. “We know what kind of atmosphere and pressure to expect in games like these, but sometimes when you walk out onto the pitch the match doesn’t go the way you planned.”
