Speaking 24 hours before their Italian Super Cup clash against Juventus, Lazio coach, Simone Inzaghi told the assembled media that he believed his side would have to play “the perfect game” in order to win.
“Against Juventus we are not the favourites, but in football you never know. The numbers make it clear that we haven’t had a good time when we have come up against the Bianconeri."
This is the third meeting between the two sides in the last five Super Cup finals, with Juventus coming out the victors on the two previous occasions in 2013 and 2015.
"We will have to show plenty of courage and also play the perfect game, that in previous matches we have been unable to do. Certainly we will perform better than in the Coppa Italia final, where we conceded an avoidable goal, and made some unforced errors.
"We've been preparing for this match since 4 July and we have had an excellent pre-season.”
Now in his seventh season with Lazio, Bosnia and Herzegovina international midfielder Senad Lulic knows full well the struggles his Lazio side have had against Juve, but will be looking to turn that around in the capital on Sunday.
“We are not afraid of anyone, not even Juve. They are the favourites and the best team in Italy and we know that it will be difficult to beat them, but we will give it our all.
"We made mistakes in the Coppa Italia final, but I hope this time Juve get things wrong so we can take advantage. Lazio have strong players and I hope that tomorrow we will be able to emerge winners."
