Rugani: “One win closer to our objective”

Daniele Rugani says Juve are “one step closer” to the title thanks to their 2-0 victory over Empoli on Saturday evening.

“It was a good night's work,” the defender told journalists after the game. “This win takes us one step closer to our objective but there's still a fair way to go. There are lots of games to play and seasons can change very quickly.

“We have to keep taking things one match at a time and keep counting down the wins so that we can make football history – it would be a legendary achievement.”

Our young Italy defender doesn't always play, but he always gets the job done when he does come in.

“I just keep working away quietly and patiently and make sure I perform well whenever I'm called upon. I get on with the job calmly and try to improve a little every day.”

Asked about fellow defender and future team-mate Mattia Caldara, who bagged a brace in Atalanta's win over Napoli tonight, Daniele said: “He's a great player. I know him because we've played together at Under-21 level.

“We both need to keep working hard because we still have a lot to prove.”
