    Profile

    DOUGLAS COSTA

Born on 14 September 1990 in Sapucaia do Sul, Brazil, Douglas Costa emerged from the youth setup of Novo Hamburgo before transferring to Gremio, where he made his professional debut on 4 October 2008, capping it off with the equalising goal in a 2-1 win against Botafogo.
In 2010, Costa switched South America for Europe. For five seasons, he was a standout performer at Shakhtar Donetsk – a club with whom he collected an array of Ukrainian titles and performed for the first time in the Champions League. Costa had accumulated an impressive total of 38 goals from the wing by the time Bayern Munich came calling for his signature in the summer of 2015.
It was in Bavaria that the Brazil international established himself as one of the continent’s most dangerous wingers, his blistering pace adding a crucial dimension to Bayern’s game and, since making the switch in July 2017, those attributes are now benefitting the Bianconeri cause.
Naturally left-footed, Costa typically hugs the left wing, but is more than capable and willing to do damage down the opposite flank as well.
He is among the best in the world when it comes to one-on-one situations, showing outstanding acceleration and an unpredictability in the way he surges towards the 18-yard box.
