Joining Juventus for a club-record fee in the summer of 2016, Gonzalo Higuain has brought an immense goal-scoring threat to the Bianconeri attack, ending his debut campaign in Turin as the club’s top marksman (32 goals in all competitions).
The Argentine forward went on a particularly prolific run over the winter months, becoming the first Juve player since David Trezeguet in 2005 to find the target in six successive league matches.
Pipita’s predatory nature in and around the box – rivalled by very few across Europe – is the fruit of an eye-catching career that began in his native Argentina.
Making his professional debut for River Plate in May 2005 at the age of 17, a flurry of 13 goals during the first half of his second season at the club ensured the French-born forward would not remain in Buenos Aires for long, with Real Madrid securing his signature in December 2006.
Higuain quickly became a firm fixture in Real’s starting XI and inevitably the scoresheet, as he would go on to find the net 122 times in six and a half seasons at the Bernabeu.
In the summer of 2013, the formidable striker headed across the Mediterranean to join Napoli and in 2015/16, he set the record number of goals in a single Serie A season with a magnificent 36 strikes in 35 games – breaking Gunnar Nordahl’s 66-year-old record in the process.
