Black & White History Vault | Juve-Inter in Coppa Italia

On Tuesday evening Juventus and Inter will meet in the first act of the Coppa Italia semi-final. The cup version of the Derby d'Italia has a long tradition.

The last meeting in Turin in the cup was in 2021. The game ended 0-0, a result that was enough for the Lady to reach the final following a 2-1 first leg advantage at San Siro.

Here are some of the star acts from those past games.

ALWAYS ALVARO

In the space of a month in 2016 Juventus and Inter played each other twice in Turin. And in both circumstances Alvaro Morata emerged as the headline act. The 3-0 Coppa Italia win came with a brace from the striker, who followed it up with another goal in the 2-0 success in the league.

DI VAIO'S DOUBLE

Same place, but another stadium, the Delle Alpi. In 2004 Juventus hosted Inter is the semi-final first leg. It ended 2-2, with the Nerazzurri leading twice but the same man, Marco Di Vaio, netted to level twice.

SPRINT START

Juventus overcame Inter on their way to winning the 1983 Coppa Italia,. Also in this case the first chapter of the semi-final was written in Turin.

Juve prevailed 2-1 thanks to a lightning start. Only eight minutes had elapsed but Juve were already two goals to the good thanks to a Giuseppe Baresi own goal and the talent of a young Giuseppe Galderisi, showing all his joy in the photo.

THREE GOALS THREE DIFFERENT GOALSCORERS

In 1979 Juventus and Inter clashed one round earlier, in the quarter-finals. The incentive for Giovanni Trapattoni's team was high. With Milan already on th way to being crowned champions, the Coppa Italia provided the opportunity to put a cup on display in the trophy cabinet.

Juve stormed to a 3-1 win. Marco Tardelli and Sergio Brio hit first before Franco Causio surprised goalkeeper Ivano Bordon - in the photo - one minute from time for a two goal advantage.
