Buffon gunning for domestic double

Gigi Buffon says the reigning champions are determined to finish the job they started by completing a Scudetto-Super Cup double when they face off with Coppa Italia winners Napoli in Monday night’s final.

Speaking to the media in Doha, the captain said: “Our aim is quite simply to win it, so that we can complete this cycle we began when we won the title.”

The 36-year-old expects the reigning champions to be given a run for their money by a Napoli outfit well-versed in tackling one-off games, believing there will be little to choose between the sides on the night.

“I think Napoli are among the ten best teams in Europe when it comes to a one-off match. If you look at the individual qualities and the way the two teams play I guess we share a similar playing philosophy, which is to dictate the tempo and attack the opposition, albeit with different tactical set-ups.

“Both sides will therefore look to exploit the weapons at their disposal to the full, and I think Napoli can battle with us on equal terms in a one-off contest.”

Buffon concluded by conveying his delight at the warm welcome afforded to the Bianconeri throughout their stay in Qatar so far.

“We've been met with incredible enthusiasm here. I think a lot of us – myself included – didn't even know there was a Juve Club here as well. The reception we've been given has certainly made us feel special and loved.”
