Caceres suffers defeat with Uruguay

Martin Caceres lined up for Uruguay in their first match of the 2013 Confederations Cup, where they were handed a 2-1 defeat by Spain.

The Juventus defender featured for the full 90 minutes in Recife but could not prevent the World Champions from establishing a two-goal lead at the interval thanks to goals from Pedro Rodriguez and Roberto Soldado. The Celeste grabbed a late consolation through Luis Suárez on 88 minutes but could not find the all-important equaliser.

However, the reigning South American champions will remain confident of earning a place in the last four as their remaining two clashes in Group B see them take on Nigeria (Thursday 20 June) and French Polynesia (Sunday 23).
