Cakir to referee Champions League final

Cuneyt Cakir has been named referee for this season’s Champions League final between Juventus and Barcelona at the Olympiastadion on Saturday 6 June.

The 38-year-old is to take charge of his fourth European fixture involving the Bianconeri, with the club’s record under his tutelage currently standing at two victories and a defeat.

Cakir, who hails from Turkey, previously ran the rule over the Old Lady’s 2-1 Europa League qualifying triumph over Sturm Graz five years ago, 2012/13’s 3-0 Champions League Group E success against Chelsea and last season’s 2-1 Europa League semi-final first leg loss to Benfica.

He’ll be flanked in Berlin by assistant referees Bahattin Duran and Tarik Ongun, goal-line officials Huseyin Gocek and Bans Simsek and fourth official Jonas Eriksson. Mustafa Emre Eyis, a reserve assistant referee, completes the team.
