Duels in previous Juventus v Milan encounters

Ahead of next Sunday's visit to the San Siro, we've picked out a selection of snapshots depicting feisty duels in past matches with the Rossoneri.

CHIESA VS HERNANDEZ

6 January 2021. In the 18th minute of the game Federico Chiesa cuts inside Theo Hernandez, lays off to Paulo Dybala and sprints past his opponent before collecting the Argentine's backheel and angling his finish into the bottom corner. Chiesa had five shots in that match, with three on target and two goals. Hernandez made two tackles and three interceptions but it wasn't enough to avoid defeat as the Bianconeri ran out 3-1 winners, with Weston McKennie netting the other.

PJANIC VS CALHANOGLU

This photo captures a moment from the fixture in 2019, which Juve won 1-0. Miralem Pjanic pulled the strings for the home side while Milan's No.10 Hakan Calhanoglu produced the most shots over the 90 minutes – five.

BENTANCUR VS MUSACCHIO

A South American match-up in Juventus v Milan from the 2018/19 campaign: Uruguayan Rodrigo Bentancur versus Argentine Mateo Musacchio. The Bianconeri edged the encounter 2-1, with Bentancur netting the winner midway through the second half. The Rossoneri defender also proved decisive – but not in the same way. It was his foul on Paulo Dybala which gave his fellow countryman the chance to make it 1-1 from the penalty spot.

DOUGLAS COSTA VS SUSO

Another tussle between two foreigners in one of the most thrilling Juventus v Milan meetings in recent times, in 2017/18. Douglas Costa and Suso were two of the key performers on the day. The Brazilian replaced Stephan Lichtsteiner during the interval and had a hand in Juve's third goal while the Spaniard was by far the most dangerous player for the visitors, forcing three fine saves out of Gianluigi Buffon.

CHIELLINI VS KUCKA

2015/16: Giorgio Chiellini beats Juraj Kucka to the ball, while Carlos Bacca watches on. Giorgio was immense in this game, both with his timely interventions and his involvement in building play – he was the player with the most successful passes. The Slovakian meanwhile was the player who had the most efforts on target, but also the one who lost the most balls.

DAVIDS VS LEONARDO

For Edgar Davids Juventus v Milan was never an ordinary match, as you might expect for a player who was pushed out the door at Milan only to see his career take off in Turin. Here we see him with Leonardo in a 3-0 win during the 2000/01 season, a result which confirmed the Brazilian's terrible track record against Juve – a few years previously he was in the PSG team thumped 6-1 in the European Super Cup played in Paris.

BONIPERTI VS SCHIAFFINO

Giampiero Boniperti and Juan Alberto Schiaffino, two legends of the game, are pictured here before Juventus v Milan kicked off on 25 November 1956. The Rossoneri won the game 1-0 and went on to claim the Scudetto that season. Boniperti was the captain of a young Bianconeri side while the Uruguayan Schiaffino graced Milan with his class for six years and also played for Italy. His debut for the Azzurri against Argentina in 1954 saw him wear the No.10 shirt alongside Boniperti with No.7.
