History | Back-to-back Cup and league clashes

Juve faces Salernitana in their first league fixture of the new year at the Arechi Stadium on Sunday, 7 January.

It's a re-match of January 4th's Coppa Italia clash at the Allianz Stadium against the same opponents, which ended in an emphatic 6-1 win for the Bianconeri.

From Turin to Salerno, from the Italian Cup to the Championship. Do you remember when this happened recently?

IT IS THE YEAR 2015

Juventus faces Hellas Verona, and the calendar pits the two teams against each other in back-to-back Cup and league ties. And it so happens that there are some curious coincidences with our current double clash against Salernitana...

1) FIRST TIME ROUND OF 16 MEETING

Juve faces Hellas for the first time in the Round of 16, just as happened at the Allianz Stadium on 4 January 2023 against the Granata.

2) IT IS PLAYED IN JANUARY

The two matches are played, both in Turin (one slight difference compared to this month's match-up) on 15 and 18 January 2015. But what catches the eye is the score of the first match.

3) TENNIS SCORE

Curiously, the Cup match ends with the same, identical albeit rare score seen against Salernitana: 6-1. Sebastian Giovinco (twice), Roberto Pereyra, Paul Pogba, Alvaro Morata and Kingsley Coman were the star performers of the night.

HOW DID IT GO IN THE LEAGUE?

In 2015, days after their Cup triumph, Juve repeated their Cup success against the Scaligeri: Pereyra and Pogba were on target again, with a sparkling brace from Carlos Tevez.
