Milan claim victory at Allianz

It wasn’t to be for Juventus as Milan claimed a 3-0 victory at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday evening courtesy of goals from Ibrahim Diaz, Ante Rebic and Fikayo Tomori.

DIAZ CURLER PUTS MILAN IN FRONT

The opening quarter of an hour saw a very calculated play between the two teams, with neither side particularly testing the opposing goalkeeper. Ibrahimovic had his shot closed down by Chiellini, before the visitors strung a series of passes together around the box that resulted in Diaz unleashing an effort just high of the target. Szczesny was called into action in the 21st minute when Diaz fired straight down the middle after an exchange with Theo Hernandez. A great chance then fell to Juve when Chiellini turned Cuadrado’s corner kick just wide of the back post with his glancing header. De Ligt brought to a halt Milan’s attacking play when he stole the ball off Ibrahimovic’s feet inside the box, before Alex Sandro pulled off an excellent header to turn away Theo’s cross-shot. The half ended with Milan grabbing the lead inside stoppage time: Tek initially beat away Calhanoglu’s free-kick, but Diaz got onto the end of it and he curled the ball into the top far corner.

SZCZESNY SAVES KESSIE PENALTY

Into the second half and Juventus threatened straight away with a Bentancur strike that was punched away by Donnarumma. Milan was then awarded a penalty in the 57th minute after VAR had judged Chiellini to have handled the ball: Kessie stood up to take the kick and he was denied by a brilliant Szczesny!

REBIC & TOMORI WRAP IT UP

Juventus started to apply the pressure on Milan, but their backline was holding tight. Stefano Pioli’s men then went on the breakaway and they doubled the lead in the 78th minute through Rebic, who blasted in from the edge of the D into the back of Szczesny’s net, watching it sail into the top corner. It didn’t end there though for Milan, who added their third and final goal through Tomori, when he turned in Calhanoglu’s free-kick with a header with seven minutes remaining. The Bianconeri attempted to pull their way back, but it wasn’t to be as Milan claimed all three points.
