The captain revels in big win

Gianluigi Buffon was tasked with breaking down tonight’s massive win over Roma moments after the final whistle.

“It was a great game and that’s a credit to us, as well as our opponents, who came here to play football and make life hard for us, knowing what a good side they are. They tried to win the match and rightly so.

“If we play and defend like we did tonight, we’re hard to break down; it’s tough to come back and beat us. The key word is ‘if’ though.

"If, on the other hand, we play like we did at Genoa, anything could happen. However, I saw something change after Genoa – I’ve been saying it for a few weeks and tonight confirmed it. The win over Roma gives us great belief and we end the year’s league action feeling fantastic.”

The captain had a final word of warning: “We must guard against complacency, which could affect our play. We want to have a great season, including in the Champions League, where fine margins make the difference.”
