When it comes to Cecilia Salvai, the words courage and tenacity take on a new, or at the very least fuller, meaning. Not only has she had to overcome two serious injuries in her career - injuries which deprived her of the chance to play in the 2019 Women’s World Cupa and the 2022 European Championship - but Cecilia has had to battle through so much more.
Cecilia, at four, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. That was something that taught her to fight, and not just on the pitch.
That experience has helped her to now become an accomplished player and a complete person, as well as one who supports Casa UGI, an association committed to helping families who have to battle against childhood illnesses on a daily basis.
It is not an easy story by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s one that Cecilia tells us with a smile, opening up the doors of her home to us, and talking us through a day in her life.
